Gen. Wesley Clark urges Democrats to build
strength for the general elections
by Torraine Norris of Birmingham News

...He said the Bush administration has failed to show leadership on
several domestic fronts, including health care, education, an energy
plan and global warming.

Clark joined the chorus of those asking U.S. Rep. Artur Davis,
D-Birmingham, to continue his efforts to shine light on the federal
handling of corruption case against former Gov. Don Siegelman.

Democrats have contended Siegelman's imprisonment is the result of
political prosecution, masterminded by former White House aide Karl
Rove.

"I believe he's being unjustly confined," Clark said of Siegelman.

Secrecy invoked on Abramoff lawsuits
by Pete Yost of AP

..."I don't know him," Bush said at the presidential news conference in
January 2006. "I've never sat down with him and had a discussion
with the guy."

After Bush's comments, Abramoff wrote an e-mail to the national
editor of Washingtonian magazine saying that Bush had seen him "in
almost a dozen settings, and joked with me about a bunch of things,
including details of my kids. Perhaps he has forgotten everything,
who knows."

Time magazine reported that its reporters had been shown five
photographs of Bush and Abramoff. Most of them, the magazine said,
had "the formal look of photos taken at presidential receptions."
