Mr. Rove Talks, but Doesn’t Answer
Opinion in the New York Times

In a recent appearance on “This Week With George
Stephanopoulos,” Karl Rove was asked if he had a role in the Justice
Department’s decision to prosecute Don Siegelman. The former
Democratic governor of Alabama was convicted and sentenced to
more than seven years, quite possibly for political reasons, and there
is evidence that Mr. Rove may have been pulling the strings.

Mr. Rove, who has traded in his White House job for that of talking
head, talked a lot but didn’t answer the question. He also did not
directly deny being involved. The House Judiciary Committee has
subpoenaed him to testify. It should do everything in its power to see
that he does and that he answers all of its questions.

Letters, faxes, and e-mail
Opinion by Melissa Webster in Mobile Press-Register

....Rove has been repeatedly invited, voluntarily, to testify before the
House Judiciary Committee in regard to his possible involvement in
the politicization of the Justice Department and politically targeted
prosecutions across the country — specifically, in regard to the
prosecution of former Gov. Don Siegelman, a still popular and
beloved Democrat in this state.

Rove has repeatedly refused this request, except under the condition
that there be no in-person follow-up questioning or cross-examination
of his responses (let's do it in writing, folks) and there be no transcript
to lock him into legal accountability (if I get caught in a lie, I want
protection from criminal consequences). At the same time he's
executing the spin of his life on national media outlets, he is claiming
that executive privilege prevents him from testifying to Congress.

Politically Motivated Conviction of Gov. Don
Siegelman -- And Rove's Role
Interview with BuzzFlash.com

....If you think that "Prosecutor-Gate" ended with the resignation of
Alberto Gonzales, you are wrong. Siegelman is only out of jail after a
lengthy campaign to get him released on bond while his case is on
appeal. Karl Rove still is at large and free to bloviate for dollars on the
corporate media, while Siegelman has to battle to prove that he is an
innocent victim of a DOJ that became a tool of partisan prosecutions.
