Riley denies any involvement in Siegelman
prosecution
Interview by Tommy Stephenson for Tuscaloosa News
Gov. Bob Riley said today that he warned Don Siegelman against
politicizing the corruption case that eventually ended with the former
governor in prison.
“I actually went to Gov. Siegelman, I told him — I looked him straight in
the eye — and I said ‘You can go out here and demagogue this, you
can say what ever you want to say, but I want to tell you, I have never
had a conversation with anybody about your case, and I never will do
it,’” Riley said of a meeting before Siegelman went on trial for
corruption in 2006. Siegelman was convicted and served nine months
in prison before being released earlier this year while he appeals the
rest of his more than seven year sentence.

Riley Slams Jill Simpson’s Role in Siegelman
Case
by Glenn Wilson of Locust Fork Journal
...“My best suggestion for him is, instead of running his mouth in the
press, he needs to go up there and put his hand on the Bible and
raise his right hand and take an oath to tell the truth in front of the
House Judiciary Committee [responds Ms. Simpson]”

" Now, I haven't talked to Karl Rove in 2 years...what I read in the paper...You know.... have you ever wondered? Don Siegelman did not testify in his trial, yet you want Karl Rove to testify about his trial...Karl Rove has said, at least the papers said, that he's willing to go up, he will talk to them about anything...."
